Management Committee Celebrates One year

The
Mineral Resources /Environmental Management
which was inaugurated a
year ago, on Tuesday celebrated their
one year achievements at
Conference room Ministry of
Environment, Idongesit Nkang Secretariat
has appreciated
the Federal government for creating the committee as a
measure towards achieving sustainable solid mineral
resources
development in the country through the
Federal Ministry of Mines and
Steel development for
their decisive measure and support to
MIREMCO in
all the state of the federation
This was made known
during an interactive
section at a press briefing to celebrate one year
of MIREMCO inauguration as government agency
which is saddle with the
responsibility to create mineral
development in the country.
Obong
Bassey Inuanyen, the chairman of MIREMCO
in his keynote address,
thanked both the state and the
federal government for the creation of
the committee
which among other things have achieved the following;
formation of all Miners into one umbrella known
as “ Miners Association
of Nigeria which was inaugurated
by its National president, Alhaji Sani
Shehu on
Wednesday 28th February 2018, Repositioning
of Mining
activities in line with the provisions of
Nigerian Minerals and Mining
Act 2007 and its
regulations 2011 over time has been able to carry
out
sensitization visits to some local government
areas in fulfillment of
one of its functions, participation
in conferences and council meetings
organized by the
Federal Ministry of Mines and Steels development and
has been able to resolve issues among stakeholders
especially with
operators, contractors and host
communities in Mining sector.
However,
Obong Inuanyen caution that miner
should regularize their registration
to enable them
obtain mining lease from Federal Ministry of
Mines and
steel development and also input
that all mining operators should
inculcate the
importance of health and safety while mining
in a
regulated and sustainable manner that on
expiration of the grace period
violators will
face severe penalties including visitation
of EFCC Act
section 46 2004.
The chairman of the committee also
solicited
for government assistant to carry out their
functions
adequately, he called on the Federal
Ministry of Mines and Steel
Development and
the state government to provide the agency with
vehicles
to enable them carry out their routine
monitoring as he solicits
corporations from local
government areas.
